Why I finally started writing

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while.

My career looks like a zigzag on paper. Software engineering in healthcare. Ten years in infrastructure and networking before that. Certifications in Linux, Cisco and Project Management. A stretch running a real estate business, selling and managing properties along the way.

Strip away the job titles and they all reward the same thing: finding what’s quietly breaking before it breaks loudly, and fixing it so it stays fixed. But what keeps me in it is the people on the other end — the clinician who can trust the data, the team that ships without the 2 a.m. call. The engineering is the how; making someone’s work a little steadier is the why.

Right now that why has me deep in test automation, where a lot of the interesting problems are. The engineering underneath it, though, is what I actually write about.

So this is my little corner of the internet. Notes on software engineering, the systems I build, and occasionally the parts of the job that don’t fit in a pull request.
